My old body is hanging in there...

My wakeup heart rate this morning was 55, much better than the 61-62 that I've had during the past week. My energy level is good, and I feel like I'm 45 again. I'm considering going to four and maybe five times a week for my running. My normal strategy is to do one long run and one medium run per week. Additional runs are rest runs. So, if I follow that strategy, my long run would be the 1.8 miles that I ran two days ago. My medium run would be 1.5 miles, and any additional runs would be 1 mile. I'm using the word "runs" but right now the "runs" are combinations of running and walking.

I've been thinking about this as I type, and I think my fourth day, for a while at least, will be just walking with my wife. The 1-mile goal is a good goal for our walking.

  1. i've started running myself not too long ago and my partner asks me if i go jogging or running, and i say what's the difference? when does a jog turn into a run? do you know?

  2. The terms "jog" and "run" aren't definitively defined. Some people consider jogging is done by recreational runners who do it for their own enjoyment and running is done by those who race. Others, like me, consider jogging as a less intense form of running. If I'm tired and am going slow, I'll probably refer to it as jogging. If I feel good I'll refer to it as running. I don't use the term jogging very much.

  6. When you're ready to get back to running, here is a plan you might consider. Starts with all walking and then later mixes in running. You determine how many weeks for each phase.

  12. I've been running for over 30 years, but I've had to miss 2 weeks lately due to pain in one hip. X-ray baffled my very competent doctors - so I'm doing what they suggested - resting. Your blog is the other part of the therapy that they could have ordered. Thanks!
