Ran half a mile and then aborted

I started running in mid-morning, but after a quarter-mile, I turned around and went back to the parking lot. I was pretty tired and decided it was best that I return home and rest. I could have forced myself to go on, but that would probably have affected me in the coming days.

  1. Hey, come on Allen, let's have some action. You're not an old man yet, you know!
    Wishing you all the best....

  2. Hi Fox,

Well, I guess I'll have to confess something.... I've been having breathing problems for several years. My SPO2 (oxygen) level, as tested by a finger-thingy, is normally about 91-92% but may go down in the high 80s. The elevation where I run is about 4400 feet. A few weeks ago, my wife and I drove two grandkids into the Wasatch mountains to see the fall flowers. The elevation was about 9000 feet. I tested my SPO2 level, and it was in the mid 70%, so low that I was ready to die. I walked back to my car and waited for the family to return. I don't compete in races anymore, and I just run because I enjoy it. My philosophy has always been to enjoy my running and to run at a pace in which I don't huff and puff. Unfortunately, that doesn't work anymore. I'm always huffing and puffing. I sit down and put on my running clothes, and I huff and puff afterwards....

With deep breathing, I can get my SP02 level up to about 95%. I have an appointment on October 8th to test my breathing. Who knows. I may end up running with a portable oxygen pack. :) Or, I may end up walking. What ever happens, I'll enjoy being outside.
