Went to the rec center and ran/walked 2 miles

We've had good air during the past week, and the air is good today. However, my wife and I went to the rec center instead of the Jordan River Parkway, because we thought the path might be slick due to snow last night. Also, even though the sky was blue and the sun was shining, the wind was blowing about 30 mph, and the air temperature was below freezing (about 30 (F)), causing the chill factor to be in the 20s. We each did 2 miles. I took a one-minute break about half way through my run.

  3. Hi Allen,

Nice to hear about your wife :) Quite a few with Norwegian descent in the US - I used to live a year in Chicago (while in high school)- and was surprised about how often I would run into people of Norwegian heritage.

    Keep up the running !

    all the best,

  4. You're right, Marius, there are a lot of Norwegians in the US. Chicago, Minnesota, and the Salt Lake valley, where I live, are the three centers of Norwegians that I know of, and there are likely additional centers of Norwegians in the US.

When I was married, 50 years ago, my mother-in-law took me to some meetings of the Sons of Norway, and she even got me out on the floor to dance a polka. Her mother left Norway when she was 16 and never saw her father again. She (the mother) first went to the Chicago area and then to Utah. My mother-in-law was the first child born in the US. She (mother-in-law) retained quite a few Norwegian customs in her home. My father-in-law was raised in the Chicago area (city of Plano) and lived there until he was married. He also is of Norwegian heritage.

I have distant connections with the Scandinavians in my family tree. One of my sidelines goes to Dublin, Ireland and to the daughter of a Viking chief and a princess of the Irish people. Going as far back as the ice age, my surname of Leigh has connections to Scandinavia.

Thanks again for visiting my blog, and I'll go to bed tonight dreaming of a 13 minute 5K.
